Sault Major Hockey Association made the decision to reduce the number of Midget AA teams from three (3) to two (2) based on discussions with Midget AA coaches and executive. This decision was not easily made, and is based on the input from the Midget coaches that Midget AA teams are not competitive enough when attending tournaments and that change needed to be made for the upcoming season.
At a special meeting of the Sault Major Hockey Association held on July 23, 2013 we made a commitment to the Midget AA coaches that all Midget AA players returning that are at the AA caliber level will be guaranteed a place to play. We understand that the local High Schools are actively recruiting players and we hope that although the league has been reduced, with Major Midget AAA and Minor Midget AA levels, we feel that there is ample room for the remaining players to play in our Midget AA division.
Sault Major did approach the High School Athletic Committee last year to allow players to play both Sault Major and High School; however they turned the proposal down, hence leaving players to only play for one organization.
We encourage you and hope to see you stay with Sault Major Hockey Association which offers its players a thirty-six (36) game schedule, one local tournament and a league against Minor Midget AA, Major Bantam AAA and the Soo Michigan team. Sault Major Players are guaranteed to play every game (barring any suspensions), and regular practices help improve the skills of all players to move to the next level of hockey.
We feel the time is right for Sault Major to fine tune its hockey program in order for teams to be competitive on all levels.
We've tested a few different formats with our divisions over the past few years, and everything we've learned has led us to this new direction for the program.
Sault Major Hockey Association looks forward to you returning to play with us for the upcoming season.
Registration information is available on our website at www.saultmajorhockey.ca and tryout schedules will be posted within the next few weeks.
